It was Virginia that witnessed the formation of rock and jazz groupDave Matthews Bandback in 1991. Since then, Stefan Lessard (bass), Boyd Tinsley (violin), Carter Beauford (drums) and Dave Matthews (vocals) have embarked on numerous tours throughout the United States and beyond.
Many times, the band has raised funds through their concerts for charities, non-profit organizations and Third-World communities. It is uncertain whether their latest U.S. tour will continue the same purpose, but audiences and followers alike will be sure to enjoy hearing songs from the group's old albums as well as newer material. If you are unfamiliar with their music, the Dallas Morning News has described it as "making doubt positive, making loss a gain and making depression a celebration."
This year, Dave Matthews Band will be joined on stage by guitarist Tim Reynolds, trumpeter Rashawn Ross and saxophonist Jeff Coffin. Though they are unofficial members, each makes an appearance in DMB's upcoming album. None of them have forgotten LeRoi Moore, the band's previous saxophonist, who died during summer 2008 after DMB's last performance as an original group. Moore died of complications after sustaining injuries in a car accident. Since then, DMB has dedicated their efforts to the formation and production of their yet-to-be-titled album.
Rob Cavallo, a producer who has worked with Green Day and My Chemical Romance, collaborated with DMB on their much-anticipated upcoming release. Their last record, "Stand Up," came out in 2005. RCA Records will release the new album in early April 2009, just before the group kicks off their tour.
On that note, DMB is giving us a reason to look forward to finals: the group will be performing at Vanderbilt Stadium alongside pop/rock/jazz artistJason Mrazand country singerRobert Earl Keenon April 25. Students can buy tickets at the Sarratt box office. Get them quick before they sell out - general admission and many lower-level seats are already gone.
