No. 20 Vanderbilt fell out of first place in the Southeastern Conference Thursday night with a 66-61 loss at Mississippi State.
The Commodores (17-6, 6-2), hampered by 27 turnovers, trailed nearly the entire game en route to their fifth road loss and had their three-game winning streak snapped.
After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, Vanderbilt took a brief 42-41 lead after a 3-pointer by junior guard Lauren Lueders with 9:41 to play, capping a 12-1 run.
The Bulldogs (17-6, 4-4) took the lead back on the next possession with a pair of free throws and never trailed after that. The win snapped a five-game losing streak against Vanderbilt.
Senior forward Christina Wirth led Vanderbilt with 16 points, while junior guard Merideth Marsh added 13.
Vanderbilt is on the road again Sunday against Kentucky at 12 p.m.
