Vanderbilt senior Amanda Scott is one of only 37 students in the country awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. The award provides Scott with a full scholarship to study and research at Cambridge. She is planning to pursue a master's in advanced chemical engineering and eventually work on environmentally and economically efficient technologies. At Vanderbilt, Scott is majoring in chemical engineering and chemistry, with minors in materials science and math. She also is on the women's cross country and track teams. Scott has worked with the Oasis Center to create a program to help underprivileged youth excel in science. Scott will begin her studies at Cambridge in October 2009.
