For the third year in a row, Pi Beta Phi sorority won the annual Sigma Chi Derby Days competition.
The win was announced Saturday night before a concert by hip-hop artists the Ying Yang Twins. The weeklong sorority competition is Sigma Chi's annual benefit for the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
"It's a triple crown!" said Pi Beta Phi member Amanda Stevens, a senior, of the third victory in three years.
Sororities vied for points by competing in various athletic competitions, such as flag football and field events, and searching for a black derby hat hidden on campus early in the week.
This year's competition proved tight, with Alpha Chi Omega sorority coming in close second by 197 points and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority in third place by 230 points.
"I think Pi Phi's participation ultimately becomes the deciding factor in our victories," said Pi Beta Phi president Cat Gallagher. "This is the first big event that we have after initiation, so from the seniors to the freshmen, everyone is really excited and enthusiastic to work together to try to win. It's not just a small group of girls that are involved, it's really our entire house."
The weeklong benefit also featured several social events, including a barbeque, a bar night at McFadden's and musical performances by Cory Morrow, the Tennessee Tallboys, DJ Duo Davis and Giroux and the Ying Yang Twins.
