SPORTS: Motorsports makes cars from scratch

Vanderbilt club designs, creates and races cars every year

The challenge that the Vanderbilt Motorsports team faces on an annual basis is a rather unique one, especially in the world of collegiate athletics.

In order to race in the annual competition, the self-sufficient Motorsports team must raise up to $23,000. (Lindsay Matthews)

SPORTS: Cutler should start for Denver -- Good Call

It is common knowledge that Vanderbilt alumnus Jay Cutler is the quarterback of the future for the Denver Broncos. After the team sputtered to open a season with high expectations, the future may arrive earlier than expected for everyone’s favorite ex-Commodore.

SPORTS: Cutler should start for Denver -- Bad Call

Two words: Carson Palmer.

Playing Jay Cutler over Jake Plummer at this point of the season would be the worst thing for both the Denver Broncos’ season and the development of Cutler as a player. This is not a situation like Peyton Manning was in 10 years ago, when he was the best quarterback on a bad team and the entire team took their lumps together and grew as a unit. Denver had the second best record in the AFC last season and made it to the AFC Championship game with Jake Plummer as their quarterback, and it still has one of the best defenses in the league, one of the better coaching staffs and, this early in the season, certainly looks to contend for the division or wild card.

SPORTS: Dores need a little luck

After three exciting games and three frustrating losses, Vanderbilt fans find themselves in familiar waters. In arguably their best chance for victory, the Commodores once again fell short of their goal.

“We played a close football game,” said coach Bobby Johnson. “I thought both teams played hard, and it came down to three or four yards and a field goal.”
