How can you mend a broken heart? As per usual, with money.
Via Jonathan Martin, the RNC announced that they raised $66 million in the month of September on Sarah Palin’s back, acting out my fundraising half-prophecy from August of hordes of conservative ladies of a certain age tearing the fundraising game apart. This is the most money raised in one month since October of 2000, when $43 million was raised.
The aforementioned broken heart, of course, remains mine. My crippling case of political burnout seems something akin to the Redskins dropping the next five games (and by dropping, I mean, getting absolutely 64-0 New England Patriots destroyed by teams whose kicker is always awkwardly flirty Katie Couric), and my subsequent refusal to watch anymore ‘Skins games. My foolish exuberance at a candidate who needs to be put back in the oven and allowed to cook for another five to ten years (…couldn’t the GOP have literally forced Ted Stevens to back his ass up, and allow Palin to run), has cost me. I mean, Sarah Palin can’t name a Supreme Court case after Roe v. Wade she disagrees with? Admittedly a gotcha question, but what of Boumediene v. Bush — the extending of habeas corpus to Guantanamo detainees — which has been a campaign selling point against Obama? The bigger issue remains the Allman Brothers Ramblin’ Man “…I read all magazines” inability to spin a tough question.
But the lady brings in shiny pennies, and who the hell knows, she could rock Joe Biden like a hurricane tonight. Please, Madame Custer, beat Joe upside the head tonight. Please.
