As we mentioned, there are as many possibilities for accommodation in Berlin as there are neighbourhoods, so we advise you to check the recommendations so you can compare them with your travel itinerary and the essential places to visit in Berlin in order to make the most of your time and enjoy the city without worrying about unnecessary transfers.
1. Mitte, the best area to stay in Berlin
Mitte is one of the most central districts of the city and therefore one of the best places to stay in Berlin. Located very close to the famous Alexander Platz television tower and the Brandenburg Gate, this neighbourhood is nowadays one of the most alternative ones in the city with plenty of cultural venues, restaurants and bars as well as several shopping arteries in the eastern part of the city.
In addition to this, the Museum Island is practically touching the neighbourhood, making this a great place to stay in Berlin.

Known for being one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the city, Friedrichshain is also one of the best places to stay in Berlin if you like the nightlife, as it is in this area where most of the trendiest clubs are concentrated.
Besides this, we can't forget that East Side Gallery and Boxhagener Platz are just a few steps away, two more reasons to choose this neighbourhood to stay in Berlin and you'll be in less than 30 minutes walking in the most central area of the city.
Note that while there are plenty of hostels in the area, many with private rooms and bathrooms, there are also conventional hotel options.

Known for being one of the cheapest areas of the city, Charlottenburg is one of the best places to stay in Berlin if you're on a tight budget and want to be in a lively area with plenty of restaurants. However, bear in mind that the area is about 6 kilometres from the city centre, so you'll need to use transport to get around.

The first time we travelled to Berlin we stayed in Mitte, at the Park Plaza Wallstreet Berlin, an accommodation with all the comforts and an excellent location that also had breakfast included in the price of the room.
The second time we stayed at Unter den Linden 39, also in Mitte, practically next to the Brandenburg Gate, in an AirBnb flat since we were in the city for a little more than a week.

Although there are many options for accommodation in Berlin, if your trip is for a few days, we would opt for the Mitte area to be as close as possible to the tourist attractions of the city. The price difference is not too great compared to other areas and you won't have to waste time on transfers.
Remember that if you are travelling in the middle of the summer or on certain holidays, it is preferable to book a few months in advance to find good prices and more alternatives.
